President Bharrat Jagdeo on Thursday received letters of credence from envoys from Mexico and North Korea.
Fernando Sandoval Flores, Ambassador of Mexico and Kwon Sung Chol, Ambassador of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea presented their letters to the president in the Credentials Room at Office of the President. According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release Minister of Foreign Affairs Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett and Director General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Elisabeth Harper also attended the ceremony.
Both ambassadors have a wealth of knowledge in various fields and served many years as diplomatic officers. According to GINA, Flores was born in Mexico City and holds a degree in economics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, a Masters degree in Security and National Defence from the War School of the Colombian Ministry of National Defence and a Masters in political science from the Rafael Landivar University in Guatemala.
Meanwhile, Chol served in the Korean People’s Republic Army and is a graduate of the Pyongyang Foreign Language University. He also studied at Havana University in Cuba. According to GINA, from 1976 to 1977, Chol served as Assistant Officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was also a Counsellor at the Embassy of the DPRK in Mozambique and Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy in the Democratic Congo, and, from 2002 to 2007, he served as the Deputy-Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
