A man, who was up to press time unidentified, died by drowning at a Soesdyke Highway creek yesterday and his body is currently at the Lyken Funeral Home, Norton Street, Georgetown.
An eyewitness who was at the creek at the time of the drowning told Stabroek News that the man of East Indian descent and who appeared to be middle aged seemed drunk and went for a swim still clad in his jeans.
After he disappeared under water, three persons went to search for him and pulled him out but by that time he had already appeared to be dead. A nurse who was at the scene attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) but her efforts failed.
He was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police took statements from persons who were present at the scene and an investigation is ongoing.
