It is official.
Guyana has retained the coveted country award of the Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championships (CMRC).
Thanks to skillfully putting pedal to the metal, Team Guyana’s daredevils amassed 541 points during the course of the three legs (Barbados, Trinidad, Guyana) which allowed the prized piece of silverware to remain in the Land of Many Waters.
This was confirmed last night during the presentation ceremony and dinner last night at Parc Rayne, Rahaman’s Park.
Barbados placed second overall on 482 points followed by Trinidad (400) and Jamaica (151).
Group 4 champion Kristian Jeffrey (153 points) who made his debut this year played a key role for Guyana’s fortunes as did Danny Persaud (74 points) who placed second overall. Third was Guyanese, Paul Vieira (70 points) who represented Trinidad and Tobago.
So did Shairaz Roshandin (111 points) who piloted his machine to a second place overall finish in the Group 2 CMRC. Barbados’ Mark Thompson (133 points) was first while Trinidad’s Mark Gill finished third (73 points).
The CMRC race day trophies went to
Group 2- Roshandin, Group 4-Jeffrey and SuperSport Motorcycle -Nikhil Seereeram.
President of the GMR&SC, Johnny Carpenter labeled the event “the biggest we have ever hosted” confirming that the fixture attracted the highest gates.
Carpenter also thanked the sponsors, competitors, fans and his hard working team for making the grand occasion a success.
Much to the applause of the semi formally dressed crowd at the venue, Seaboard Marine’s Stephen Bell pledged his continued support for the fastest growing sport in the Caribbean.
Brief remarks were also made by of GT&T Nicola Dugan and Southland International’s CEO Irzad Zamal.
