A four-year-old child, of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, was yesterday morning rushed to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after she was attacked by a pit bull owned by her family.
The child was discharged hours after her admittance with several stitches about her body. Her parents refused to speak with the media but a neighbour said the family is known for raising pit bulls, one of which even attacked the child’s mother previously.
The neighbour told Stabroek News that the attack on the child occurred yesterday morning, when the parents left with their dogs for their usual morning walk but left one behind.
The child, who had been sleeping in the house at the time, woke up and ventured into the yard, where the dog attacked her.
Neighbours were alerted by loud screams and rushed to render assistance. The police were also alerted.
The neighbour said the child’s father returned and upon hearing the news he stabbed the pit bull to death in the presence of police officers who had responded to the report.
