Dear Editor,
I do sincerely applaud the progress in our society’s recognition of women’s competence marked by the nomination of Ms Elisabeth Harper as candidate for Prime Minister and first Vice-President. Her professionalism as a public servant has helped Guyana’s foreign relations in a difficult time.
Ms Harper will be hard to replace as administrative head of our foreign ministry when she resigns the public service — as of course she must resign, upon assuming high-status representation of a political party. From her mostly distinguished record, we will expect Ms Harper to bring some needed dignity to the election campaign, as she moves from impartial public administration to the hustings now as a party leader.
Yours faithfully,
Gordon Forte
