“The Lord Canary, the Life and Contributions of Malcolm Corrica,” the biography of the Guyanese calypso legend, was launched last evening at the National Library.
Described by its author Allan Fenty as a publication that is “not just about a Calypsonian, but about a nation builder,” the book is one more step in the direction of honouring what Fenty refers to as one of Guyana’s unsung heroes.
The book launch featured excerpts from the novel as well as tributes by those who were personally acquainted with and affected by Lord Canary’s contributions in all phases of his life, whether it had been as Calypsonian, Parliamentarian or Minister.
The biography will be available as early as tomorrow at Austin’s Book Store and will also be on sale this evening at the finals of the Calypso Monarch competition. A representative of the Department of Culture also promised to have a few copies of the book distributed in schools.
