An investigation has been launched by the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) into a plane crash at the Eteringbang airstrip, Region Seven (Cuyuni/ Mazaruni) that left one pilot injured yesterday.
Director of the GCAA Egbert Field when contacted told this newspaper that he received a report that the plane crashed around 11am shortly after takeoff.
In a statement, the aviation authority said that preliminary reports indicate that the single engine CESSNA aircraft bearing registration number 8R-GPR was on a shuttling mission from Eteringbang to Ekereku when the incident occurred. The pilot, Dominic Waddell suffered minor injuries.
The statement added that officials from the Accident and Investigation group supported by a team from the GCAA were en route to the crash site to commence investigation into the cause of the crash.
It was only two weeks ago that another plane attached to domestic carrier, Roraima Airways, crashed in the same area.
That crash had claimed the life of Roraima Airways Chief Pilot Collin Wilson Martin. According to reports, Martin was just about to land at Eteringbang when he nosedived into the dense jungle.
