An excavator operator died on Monday after he was attacked by a swarm of Africanised bees while he was working in a backdam at Weldaad, West Coast Berbice.
Dead is Dhancomar Hookumchand, called ‘Kumar,’ 60, a father of Lot 179 Sixth Street, Bush Lot, West Coast Berbice. He was declared dead on arrival after being rushed to a hospital.
While details surrounding the incident remain unclear, Stabroek News understands that Hookumchand was operating machinery in the backdam area, when he was surrounded and stung by the swarm.
Hookumchand’s family declined to comment on the incident.
