Teen gunned down in Campbellville
A teenager was gunned down in front of his Craig Street, Campbellville home last night, shortly after residents saw him struggling with two unidentified men who had arrived in a “small” white car.
Dillon Gomes, also called Delroy, was apparently shot four times – twice in the head and once in the stomach and chest.
Reports state that the shooting occurred at about 6:45 p.m., only a few minutes before an attack on a Kitty drinking spot that left four dead and several injured.
Some residents claimed that prior to Gomes’ shooting, a white car was observed driving “up and down” the one way Craig Street. Stabroek News understands that the same vehicle returned later and called for Gomes’ father, who is popularly known as ‘Zip’,
The young man was seen going outside and speaking to the occupants of the car. Residents said just before the shots rang out, the men appeared to have been forcing Gomes to enter the vehicle, while Gomes was resisting.
“The car came from Sheriff Street, into Craig Street, and they stopped at the house and called the father. The boy came out to see who was it and they called him and he went to the car. They held onto him he refused to go in the car and they shoot him,” one person told this newspaper.
The gunman reportedly reentered the car which drove slowly out of the street and turned north into Delph Avenue. About five minutes later, 14 people, one of whom was Director of Public Prosecutions Denis Hanomansingh, who were at Natoo’s Liquor Store in Pike Street, Kitty were shot.
Gomes was rushed to a private city hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
