The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) hopes to select office bearers as early as next month at its annual general meeting (AGM).
GTTA Assistant Secretary Linden Johnson told Stabroek Sport yesterday that at the last AGM the association moved a motion to elect office bearers every two years (bi-annually) instead of annually.
“We currently have members that are not functioning and that is one of the reasons why we urgently need our AGM,” Johnson said.
The association also plans to recruit ‘new blood’ for the administration of the sport.
Peter Ramsaroop served as president of the association from 2005 to June last year but has indicated that he will not be seeking re-election.
Under his stewardship the GTTA attempted to bridge the gap between the sport and the corporate community. How-ever, last year, the association encountered difficulties securing sponsorship for its national teams.
So far no possible candidate has emerged to fill the post being vacated by Ramsaroop and Munroe, asked about a presidential run, did not give a definitive answer.
Johnson said the GTTA will indicate quite shortly the date for the AGM.
