The Region Three Regional Administration Office said rehabilitation works on the Windsor Forest Community Centre are complete.
In a press release, the administration said the Office of the President funded $2.6 million project was executed by a village contractor. Hardat Hardial, overseer of the La Jalousie/Nouvelle Flanders Neighbourhood Democratic Council said the project was funded after residents approached President Bharrat Jagdeo for assistance earlier this year. He said the repairs included carpentry, plumbing, guttering, grilling, electrical installations and painting.
The centre was built in 1972 through a self-help initiative co-ordinated by the then Community Development Council through the Ministry of Co-operatives. The National Sports Council provided assistance for a fence to be erected around the ground in 1996 and, in 2001, the President’s Youth Choice Initiative provided funding for steel grilles to be installed in the lower flat of the building. The building will officially be reopened at a later date.
