Dear Editor,
I am a Guyanese by birth and was issued with a National ID Card. To my amazement the Police Clearance Department does not accept a National ID Card when a person applies for a police clearance. They only accept a passport or birth certificate.
I would like to know why were Guyanese given a National ID Card in the first place when it is not accepted in sections of our country. I believe to get an ID Card you have to get your birth certificate for correct transfer of information to be put on said card or passport. So why is our National ID Card not accepted at some Government entities. A National ID Card should be accepted at any level.
I would not accept the excuse that ID Cards can be forged, because passports and birth certificates can be forged as well.
Yours faithfully,
