Less than 11 overs was possible yesterday in the Carib Beer clash between Guyana and the Windward Islands as overnight and early morning showers soaked the Tanteen Recreation ground in Grenada.
The Windwards, resuming on 161 for five lost the experienced Junior Murray for 44 caught behind off skipper Narsingh Deonarine in the third over of the day with the score on 170.
Tea was taken with the hosts at 185 for the loss of six wickets with the new batsman Liam Sebastian on three and skipper Rawl Lewis on 10.
During the tea interval heavy showers reappeared giving umpires Johnson and Bruce no choice but to call off the day’s play at 4pm.
The start of the second day was delayed until 2.30pm owing to a very soggy outfield from overnight and early morning rains.
Only seventy overs have been completed in the two days so far suggesting that the contest may have already been reduced to a first innings affair, if the weather permits play on the final two days.
Bowling for Guyana Deonarine has 2-22 from four overs while young left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul has 2-22 from nine overs and fast bowler Esaun Crandon 2-39 from 16 overs.
For the Windwards, opener Devon Smith made 34 and Andre Fletcher 40.
