Region Six Regional Chairman Zulfikar Mustapha says Berbicians need to participate fully in development in the new year.
In a press release the East Berbice/Corentyne chairman said there has been a lack of meaningful consultations with residents, particularly in the Neighbourhood Democratic Council, but he expects that to change with the new Regional Democratic Council. Mustapha said the Regional Administration has already started regular outreaches and interaction with Berbicians to ensure their input and ideas for development are considered.
At the same time, Mustapha said 2006 had been an eventful year for the region and the county can count the building of the sugar factory at Skeldon, the resurfacing of the Corentyne Highway and the signing of the contract for the Berbice River Bridge among its achievements. He said too, the start of a new year means new development for the region and a renewed commitment by the new administration “to work harder to implement its objectives” and enhance the quality of life of the people. The chairman urged persons to co-operate as “if there is a cohesion of efforts, unlimited things can be achieved.”
