Dear Editor,
Wasn’t the site at Chateau Margot where the chimney is located supposed to be an historical site? If so wasn’t this particular area preserved and kept clean and tidy at all times? Why then is a lumber yard allowed to conduct business on a daily basis unimpeded?
In the first place I view it as strange for a private owner to have access to this piece of land. I was informed that this very individual attempted to open a similar business at this location sometime back, but was not given the green light.
Knowing the importance and consequences he chose to rent the location to a brave and ambitious individual. Isn’t this a grave injustice and insult to the Guyanese people’s intelligence? As one drives further east, a permanent structure is located at the northern parapet in the vicinity of Church of God road at Buxton by the name of “Zion Gate”.
If there is a campaign currently to dismantle all the roadside shacks and stalls what is the position with this shop? The shop was allowed to be constructed on a solid concrete foundation. This is a clear case of violation of the laws of the Regional Democratic Council.
I think both these matters need urgent attention, because it is clear that double standards have been applied.
Yours faithfully,
Tajpaul Gainda
