Dear Editor,
The year seems to have started in confusion since this VAT has descended upon us. We knew it was coming and we knew we were not educated about this “replacement” tax enough, hence creating an environment of ignorance and chaos in our society.
It seems like everyone is scrambling to get some more information so as to soothe their troubled minds when they go to the store or market to get basic survival items only to be given a dose of what they did not want to “taste”.
Consumers have been traumatised. This has led me to believe that VAT means Vicious And Traumatic. It is enough for any sane person to voluntarily join the “bread line” (by the way most of that is being VATted too).
There are so many questions and so little answers seem to be available. Can someone please tell me where can I find a few basic food items that are cheaper than what they were on December 31, 2006? I’ll be grateful, less confused and less worried.
Yours faithfully,
Leyland Mingo, Jr.
