Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon spent several hours in hospital yesterday after he fell in his office and aggravated a chronic back ailment.
A press release from the Ministry of Health stated that Dr Luncheon fell in his office yesterday morning and aggravated the existing problem. He was taken to the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital where an X-ray and MRI was done and preliminary results showed that there was no fracture or neurological complication, the release said.
Following the MRI, Dr Luncheon was transferred to the Georgetown Hospital. An update later yesterday from the ministry said that Dr Luncheon was discharged from the Georgetown Hospital after further evaluation by a medical team which included a neurosurgeon. He is recuperating at home.
A source told Stabroek News that when Dr. Luncheon, who is said to be in his late sixties arrived at the Georgetown Hospital shortly after 2 pm, he was taken into the institution on a stretcher to the Intensive Care Unit.
Around 4:30 yesterday afternoon, Dr Luncheon emerged from the High Dependency Unit area of the hospital surrounded by security officers and medical staff.
Despite whatever pains he was feeling he managed a broad smile and shook the hands of several persons who were standing in the hospital’s lobby. He even stood for several minutes chatting with a group of women.
Last March Dr. Luncheon was rushed to the USA for urgent medical attention. It was later revealed that he had to undergo emergency eye surgery.
