One month after bandits broke into Aaron & Son Jewellery Establishment on Main Street, New Amsterdam and carted off $1.2M in gold and silver jewellery they again invaded the store a few nights ago.
This time the robbers only manage to flee with $107,000 in silver jewellery and a few “find gold chains” as Aaron, the owner, had secured his valuable pieces.
Aaron said the men entered the store from the front door after hitting on it loudly and wrenching the locks open.
Persons living nearby said they were awakened by the loud noise and a businessman who saw the men breaking the locks fired a shot in the air. The men escaped but not before grabbing the stock that remained in the store.
The jeweler said a resident went to get him and when he got there the police were already at the scene. He said he saw the locks broken and his glass cases smashed in.
Two nights before that incident the bandits attempted to break into the store from the window at the back. But neighbours saw them and telephoned Aaron and he arrived with a friend who is a firearm holder.
The men were still there when he arrived and they started to run but his friend fired three shots in their direction. According to Aaron, the bandits gained entry from the same window when they robbed the store in December. He said he was forced to remove the window and seal up the space with cement.
The businessman said it seems as though his business is a target and added that “it is not fair that I have to work so hard and then bandits come and take everything as if it belong to them”. He hopes that police can find the culprits soon before other businesses suffer in the same manner. (Shabna Ullah)
