How else to describe the meanderings and the procrastination involved in the Main street Roman Catholic Church drama. One of the oldest and most vibrant parishes, the Main street parish, has not had its church rebuilt for over two years even though the consensus of opinion is for it to be rebuilt. What gross injustice to the Main Street parishioners!
This consensus was ignored and a special committee to consider rebuilding was put in place. What for? Was this necessary? What other artifice can be conjured up to put a spoke in the wheel of the issues?
But this issue has further implications. The Main street church has been a haven for both Catholics and non Catholics. The non Catholic support for rebuilding gives ample testimony to this.
And so we see that the Main street church plays a not negligible role in Evangelization. Evangelization is a basic tenet of Catholicism – “Go ye and teach all nations”.
That certain elements of the Church are against rebuilding is of no consequence. The Aryan Heresy which denies the Divinity of Christ was supported by 365 senior members of the Church (Bishops). It was the laity that supported Christ’s Divinity and won the day. And so it is imperative that the laity do their duty.
Evangelization must not be compromised. This is an issue that affects the University Church and must be treated as such.
We must pray for the defaulters that they may eventually see the light.
Christ is in charge and he has assigned each and every one of us to an appointed task. So be it! Let us do our duty.
