A Hubu, East Bank Essequibo farmer is calling on the police to take action against the owners of a number of vicious dogs that roam the backlands and attack his herd.
Raiz Rahaman said though his farm is partly fenced and is surrounded by a canal the dogs still manage to get in and attack his goats. He said the dogs don’t always kill the animals but leave them badly bitten after which it takes a few days before they die.
He said the last incident occurred on Boxing Day when the dogs killed a number of his goats. The man also acknowledged that a number of residents had accused him of poisoning the dogs but he has denied the allegation.
The man said he saw the dogs attacking his herd but after the first owner was charged, the owners of the others dogs have denied ownership.
In frustration, Rahaman said since persons have denied ownership the police should then destroy the animals. He said he’s reported the matter to the Ministry of Agriculture as these incidents have been ongoing for nine months and he “can’t be losing the goats.” Rahaman said from a herd of 300 he now has 250.
