Fertilizers and pesticides are zero-rated according to the Value Added Tax Act and as such do not attract VAT, the Ministry of Agriculture reiterated yesterday in a press release.
Meanwhile, the Agricu-lture Ministry is asking distributors to extend the benefits of all zero-rated farming inputs to farmers.
According to the release, the ministry has been receiving reports from farmers that some distributors are collecting VAT on fertilizers.
As a result, the release noted, these complaints have been forwarded to the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) for investigation.
Meanwhile, farmers and the general public are advised to contact the VAT Department of the GRA to report businesses or individuals suspected of charging VAT on items that are zero-rated or totally exempt in the agricultural sector.
