Minister responsible for Sport and chairman of the Local Organising Committee Dr. Frank Anthony has said that volunteers are necessary for the hosting of mega events.
Dr. Anthony made the disclosure while delivering the keynote address at the opening of the 2007 International Cricket Council’s Cricket World Cup
Volunteer Corps Training at the Queen’s College Auditorium on Saturday.
He urged them to pay close attention to gain the most out of the training.
The volunteers will be known as CWC VIBES said Volunteer Coordinator Sabrina Panday.
The acronym VIBES spells Volunteers (who are) Intelligent, Bold, Bright, Enthusiastic and Sensational.
According to Panday, the 350 volunteers registered for training were selected from 2,000, which the CEO of the Local Organizing Committee Karan Singh referred to as “the cream of the crop of our society.”
Singh welcomed the VIBES to what he called the most important aspect of their volunteer experience, training, and thanked the select group for offering their services free to their country as it gets ready to host the biggest event in its history.
Master Trainer Allison Dundas, who was one of the few selected to travel to St. Lucia for training, introduced the trainers who conducted this seminar.
Candidates from the first group who complete the programme successfully will move on to the next level and be placed in specific jobs.
The training programme is divided into seven modules spread out over two days from 8am to 5pm.
