Dear Editor,
As perhaps expected, the nay-sayers and doomsayers are at it again, this time about the Health Facilities Licensing Bill 2006, by those who seem determined to criticize any and everything that the government does or is about to do.
All sorts of evil intentions and machinations are being read into its introduction, which bear no relevance at all to the provisions and intentions to upgrade the practices in both the public and private sector.
A careful study will show that there are no sinister aims and objectives, but rather a worthy intention to formalize best practices standards in all health facilities providing service to members of the public.
Guyana has to modernize in order to harmonize its standards in all areas with those of the developed countries, so that we are not left behind and provide goods and services of acceptable standards.
The Bill, although already introduced in Parliament, is now subject to discussion and debate by a Special Select Committee, even before its second reading.
When the Bill is passed into law eventually, all citizens will benefit from improved safety and service in the health sector.
