Dear Editor,
On Dec 30 2006, the Kuru Kururu neighborhood was assaulted by loud and annoying music coming from a party in the village. I called the local police station at 8 pm asking that they ensure it be turned down.
Far from being helpful the officers were annoyed by my request. So instead I tried calling the commander of A division , then the deputy and then the officer in charge, all to no avail as the numbers rang out.
Finally at 8 30 pm a policewoman at Timehri answered the phone but refused to give her name and rank. The music went on until 3 am.
I am sure such scenarios go on all over Guyana every weekend but working people deserve better treatment than to have their complaints ignored by a police force that seems to exist only for itself.
Yours faithfully,
(name and address provided)
