The Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club (CSTC) will show their gratitude and appreciation by means of a race walk on Sunday January 28 in memory of the late veteran race walker Lennox “Engine” Jacobs.
The race begins at 6:30 am at the Kitty Pump Station, Kitty Sea-Wall and proceeds along Carifesta Avenue to Kingston Methodist Church opposite Jacob’s residence. The race is open to competitors in all categories.
His death was described by Coordinator of the CSTC, Olga Harry as a great blow to the sport. She also added that the death of Jacobs would increase the shortage of professional race walkers in the country at a time when the sport is being aggressively promoted countrywide.
Jacobs was said to be the driving force behind the large number of young people who were becoming involved in the sport. He died in an accident at Main and Lamaha Streets, Georgetown.
A wake will be held at his residence, 48 High Street, Kingston tomorrow. The executive and members of the CSTC extended their sincere condolences to his relatives and friends.
