Rezena Sukram, sales clerk – ‘I’m not satisfied with the investigation so far into the disappearance of the missing weapons because they have only found a small amount. The weapons that are still out there can be used for illegal activities and the authorities need to keep searching.’
Lashawna Hughes, clerk – ‘I am not satisfied with the investigation thus far. I believe that the country is taking a risk since those guns are in the hands of the wrong people and they can use them to continue robbing people. The crime rate in this country will continue to increase unless they find the remaining weapons. They need to keep investigating.’
Benjamin Daniels, joiner – ‘No, I’m not satisfied with the investigation. Every raid they go on they should find one of the guns. I believe they know where the guns are at and the commissioner and the head of the army need to sit down and discuss things. I really cannot understand how the weapons went missing in the first place from Camp Ayanganna.’
Shondel Barrington, teacher – ‘No. Because if they don’t find the guns, they will be used to commit crimes. They need to carry out proper investigations to find out who really is behind it. They have to start from Camp Ayanganna with the person who was in charge of arms because it’s someone in there who took it out.’
Krystle London, private sector employee – ‘Right now I’m not hearing much about the investigation; it seems it has died down. The authorities need to question persons more and follow up on the leads and search even harder. The small amount of weapons that they have found so far is not good enough. They need to do much more since it has been almost a year since they discovered the weapons missing.’
Danny Puran, driver – ‘No I am not satisfied with the investigation thus far; I can’t understand exactly what’s going on. I don’t think they are doing everything. They need to get more serious about it because these weapons out there are a threat to the country. They need to look harder for the weapons. They should go back and question the persons who were in charge, further.’
Dave Khan, student – ‘I am not satisfied with the investigation because all the weapons are supposed to be found. They need to investigate the people in the army, mainly the people who were on duty and who were in charge at the time. One person could not have smuggled all those guns out because those are big guns. I believe someone was paid off. They need to investigate more because by now they should have had something to tell the public about their progress. It has been a long time since the weapons have gone missing and the small quantity found is unacceptable.’
Mark Khan, UG student – ‘No, I believe the system is sloppy and they need to do a thorough investigation. They need to have an external body to investigate the disappearance of the weapons and get rid of corrupt officers. They also need to monitor officers who they have dismissed since they would still have contacts.’
Maylene Adams, private sector employee – ‘I think they are doing enough but I also think more can be done. They need to increase surveillance because it seems they are not doing much of that. They are not checking on the right people and I believe that some persons are happy that those weapons are not in the army.’
S. Singh, security guard – ‘I’m not satisfied because there are still persons on the outside who are using the guns. I think the GDF and the police need to be more vigilant in their hunt for the guns. They cannot sit in their offices and expect the weapons to be found. They need more information from people. I have to praise them though for recovering some of the weapons but they need to do more.’
