The Inter School/Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship (IS/IVCF) of Guyana says it is starting this year’s agenda of moral and social development activities with a Thanksgiving Service, in this its 50th year.
A press release from the group said it plans to celebrate its jubilee, under the theme ‘Celebrating His Story: 50 Not Out’, with a roster of activities including church services, a national family fun day, quizzes, lectures and the launching of a publication. Also, Dr Las Newman, associated general secretary of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students, is the guest speaker at the service planned for Saturday at the First Assembly of God Church in Durban Street.
The movement said its primary mission “is to encourage students to develop a closer relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and share their faith with their fellow students.” The IS/IVCF said it reaches more than 12,000 students weekly in over 220 primary, secondary and tertiary educational institutions countrywide.
The IS/IVCF said it has significantly contributed to the development of the nation as a key partner in the holistic development of youths. It said it focuses on leadership training, promotes diligence in studies and community service and addresses social problems like teenage pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, delinquency and other issues affecting young people.
The service starts at 10 am.
