Rosignol rape and robbery accused bailed

Two men accused of raping and robbing a Rosignol woman were granted bail on Tuesday when they appeared before Magistrate Kim Kyte-John to answer to the charges at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court.

Haroon Ramessar and Cordell Ellis of Rosignol were granted pre-trial liberty in the sum of $150,000 each.

Ramessar is also charged with violently robbing the West Bank Berbice woman of one gold chain valued at $17,800, a wedding ring valued at $11,600, an anklet valued at $7,500 and a nose ring costing $3,000; a total value of $39,900.

Ramessar’s attorney, Joel Edmund, asked the court for bail to be set at a reasonable sum. He told the court that his client’s wife is pregnant and that this is the first time that he has been charged with an offence.

The magistrate ordered the men to appear at court on February 13 for the commencement of the preliminary inquiry.
