There has been a notable increase in acute diarrhoeal disease and vomiting (gastroenteritis) in several areas along the coast and especially in the Canje, Berbice area which the Ministry of Health says it is concerned about.
Statistics obtained from the New Amsterdam hospital and released by the Ministry of Health show that just over ten adults and children showed up with gastroenteritis between January 14 and 18. But a day later the numbers jumped to close to 30 and remained fairly high until earlier this week.
In a press release yesterday the Ministry said most cases were noted among children 0 to 15 years and young adults up to 35 years.
