A 50-year-old housewife accused of threatening behaviour towards two other women appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court yesterday and was released on bail.
Jasmattie Ally of Cornelia Ida Squatting Area, West Coast Demerara pleaded not guilty to two charges of threatening behaviour and was released on $15,000 bail by Magistrate Fazil Azeez.
It is alleged that last Tuesday at Cornelia Ida, Ally displayed threatening behaviour to Sunita Bissoon whereby a breach of the peace may be occasioned. On the same day it is also alleged that she threatened Serojonie Persaud. Following reports to the police, she was arrested and charged.
Attorney-at-law Mishka Puran entered an appearance for Ally. In her submissions, she stated that her client and the virtual complainants (VC) who live in the same yard are not on speaking terms. The attorney stated that she believes that the charges were brought out of vindictiveness. She said that Ally lives with her husband and two children. Puran then asked for reasonable bail.
Responding, Police Prosecutor Ramsahoye Rambajue said that Ally, who was recently released on bail after being charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, was accusing the VCs of providing information to the police and declared that since her release on bail she was continuing in that manner.
Ally will return on March 6 at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court on the two threatening behaviour charges.
