Dear Editor,
Those councillors who are selected to serve on the Regional Democratic Councils in different regions on behalf of their political party are expected to attend every Regional Democratic Council meeting in their respective regions to discuss the economic development of their region, and to ensure that things are implemented in accordance with the demand. In this way people will feel satisfied about their community development.
The Regional Democratic Council has the power to discipline workers in general. They can take the necessary action as long as complaints are brought to their attention.
These councillors have the privilege of visiting different communities to enquire if they are satisfied with the kind of responses they are receiving from the Regional Democratic Council. Take for instance the manner in which contracts are being delivered to applicants. It must be done in an equitable manner.
These contractors must know to read a plan, so at any time you are on the worksite you can say whether the job is progressing according to the specification and dimensions.
By doing so it will allow less substandard work, the right amount of cement the right amount of steel rods. And the building or road will last for fifteen years instead of five years.
These councillors should indeed receive a salary from the government because they operate like a mini parliament in every region in this country. Some of these councillors do not have a viable income. I am asking that the government take a serious look at this aspect.
The community confidence lies in their hands. One bad decision can affect the entire region.
Yours faithfully,
Michael Hope
