A second person is before the court accused of breaking into North Point Imports on King Street earlier this month and carting off with over $5M in appliances, cash, cell phones and accessories.
Leon Mohammed, 36, of 1315 Sussex Street, Charlestown was not required to plead to the indictable charged of break and enter and larceny and Acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan remanded him to prison.
It is alleged that between January 6 and 8, Mohammed broke and entered the store of Denswick Northe and stole 129 cell phones, a quantity of cell phone accessories, electric appliances and $50, 000 cash,all to a total value of $5,636,260.
In her submissions attorney-at-law Debra Backer told the court that her client is a handyman and had no previous brushes with the law. She stated that her client told her that he was beaten in the presence of his brother. Mohammed will return to court on February 12.
Reports are that Northe was informed on January 8 that his store was broken into. When he arrived at the premises he found the bolts and padlocks that secured the door lying on the floor and over $5M worth of cell phones and accessories were missing. Cash and household items were also missing from the store.
About a week after the theft, police arrested Wycliff Grant and shortly after he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where he was remanded to prison by Acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan.
On Friday last, a cellphone technician appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court charged with receiving some of the stolen phones and accessories.
Shivnauth De Abreu, 27, of Lot 4 Dowding Street and Vlissengen Road, Kitty denied the allegation of receiving stolen property and Acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan released him on $75,000 bail.
It is alleged that between January 4 and 27 at Kitty, De Abreu received 20 stolen GSM phones and a quantity of cell phone accessories together valued $593,500, knowing that they were stolen or unlawfully obtained.
