Charity Shop opens

Charity Shop patron Kayleigh Burgess yesterday opened her promised new store on Church Street.

Burgess, wife of Windies Sports Bar proprietor David Burgess, said the store is being manned by volunteers and all money made from the sales will go to local charities. Burgess urged persons who are willing to drop off used goods still in good condition to do so at any time. These items, she said, would in turn be sold at very low prices.

The shop is already stocked with a number of items including clothing for babies, children and men and shoes, handbags and children’s toys.

Burgess said she realizes that there is a need for such an organisation where people could purchase used items in good condition at low affordable prizes. “So far the response is great and people are coming forward to assist with the cause and this is good,” she said.

In a press release last year Burgess had said the store would be a replica of the first one which was a self-funded business where all of the items for sale were donated from persons countrywide and from the USA and Canada. The release had said the business’s success resulted in several charities receiving monthly donations. This shop had been run by Courts.

The Charity Shop opens from 10 am to 5 pm weekdays and from 9 am to 12 pm on Saturdays. The store is located opposite Austin’s Book Services.
