Bandits, posing as customers, robbed an East Bank Demerara laboratory of some $700,000 yesterday morning.
Stabroek News was told that the two robbers apparently traced officials of the Loring Laboratory located at Coverden, EBD from a city bank. The officials had just withdrawn cash to pay staff who receive fortnightly payments.
According to reports reaching this newspaper Khemraj Rampersaud, a manager at the laboratory was in his office when the two men approached pretending as though they were there to do business. Rampersaud, reports say, opened the door for the men who on entering the building hit him behind his head with their guns. The robbers then ordered Rampersaud and another staff member to hand over all of the money. Some $700,000 was surrendered and the bandits then fled.
