A 26-year-old mother of two on Thursday appeared in court accused of duping a woman of more than half a million dollars after pretending that she could get her a car.
Simone Dionne King of 101 Phase Two, Good Hope, East Coast Demerara pleaded not guilty to the charge of obtaining money by false pretence and Acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan released her on $100,000 bail.
It is alleged that between December 18 last and January 7 this year with intent to defraud King obtained from Diawattie Bhagwandin $550,000 by pretending that she was in a position to purchase and deliver an AT192 motor car to the said Bhagwandin.
Attorney-at-law Debra Backer who entered an appearance for King told the court that police took away her client’s passport as a result of the investigation. She added that King sells craft for a living and has never been before the court. Counsel stated that since King’s passport is in the possession of the police, she poses no flight risk.
The prosecution did not object to bail. The matter continues on March 19 in Court Two.
