Two members of parliament are expected to participate in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association UK branch seminar on “Restoring trust in the political system.”
Gail Teixeira, Advisor to the President on Governance, and Deborah Backer of the PNCR will join Westminster and other Commonwealth MPs from some 20 countries to share ideas on reinvigorating parliamentary democracies, a press release from the British High Commission said.
Discussions will examine topics such as “Restoring the Crucial Link between Parliament and People”; “Integrity in Public Life and Tackling Corruption”; “Upholding Human Rights whilst Tackling Security Threats”; “The Role of the Media”; and “Youth – Re-engaging the Next Generation”.
The seminar takes place in Westminster, London from February 4-10.
Speakers will include the Director of the BBC World Service, the Communications Director of Buckingham Palace, and the Chairperson of the Commission on Parliament in the Public Eye.
The participations of the local MPs was organized by the British High Commission and is being facilitated with support from the National Assembly and the Guyana government, the release said.
