The Mothers’ Union, a service organisation which advocates Christianity in marriage and family life, on Monday hosted its annual general meeting (AGM) at the Hotel Tower.
A press release from the union said it serves communities through several outreach projects including family counselling services, day care centres that cater for children from low income households, a skills training centre which offers sessions in craft, cookery, and computer technology and other life skills and school feeding and parenting programmes.
The release said the union is a Christian service organisation which has a membership of about 3.5 million women in 75 countries. Maude Jones established the first branch in Guyana, at the All Saints Anglican Church, New Amsterdam, in 1926. From the early 1950s branches were formed in other parts of the country and the organisation presently boasts a membership of about 2200 women.
