Dear Editor,
I totally agree with Dr Ramsammyโs intention to regulate the health profession.
Some doctors are scoundrels. My neighbour Michael Kissoon of 42 Gordon Street, Kitty died on Saturday February 3, 2007, at his home. He was a known alcoholic and did not see any doctor over the last couple of years. When he died the family had difficulties getting some one to certify that he was dead. They eventually found one. The doctor charged the family fourteen thousand dollars to certify him dead and informed the family he will charge them forty-four thousand dollars for writing them a death certificate so that a post mortem would not be necessary. This doctor who practices (street given) is devoutly religious. That in my estimation is making money off the dead.
This doctor is totally inconsiderate and unsympathetic to the plights of others, and by agreeing to write a death certificate is condoning an illegality.
Yours faithfully,
Amanda Peters

You could report this doctor to the Guyana Medical Council or indeed to the police.
