Dear Editor,
People have long felt a need for a bridge across the Berbice river owing to the long interminable delays, the time it takes to wait on either side, and at times the frequent breakdowns and unreliability.
Realizing the wishes of the people for such a bridge and the development that would follow if it were built the PPP/Civic administration made a commitment to have such a bridge built much to the satisfaction of the vast majority of the people.
Not only Berbicians will benefit but people from all over the country as well either directly or indirectly.
It took a lot of time for all the studies to be done, to acquire the funding, and mobilize all the other resources that would be needed.
It is promised that this bridge would be in use by early 2008 and people are excited to reap the comfort and benefits which its building would bring.
The whole fabric of the society will be strengthened, productivity will be increased but not only by the time that will be saved in crossing the river by the ferry, more work and production will get done and the whole country will benefit by the speedier flow of goods and services resulting in the establishment of new businesses and the expansion of existing ones, thus providing more jobs.
The building of the Berbice River Bridge will be the fulfilment of another commitment by the administration to the people.
