The Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) has selected 27 boxers to prepare for possible selection on the Guyana team to the Pan American Boxing trials and Caribbean Championships in April.
The squad was selected at a meeting held on Tuesday at the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) headquarters.
National coach Carl Franklin told Stabroek Sport that the 27 boxers would begin their training on Monday from 5am and would continue until it is decided who would actually participate in the Pan Am Games.
The boxers short-listed are Ryan Jeffers and Dexter Marques (Flyweight), Clive Atwell (Bantamweight) Dillon Allicock (Light Flyweight) Ray Sandiford, Quacy Craig, Orin Moore and Gladwin Dorway (Featherweight)Andrew Lowenfield, Aubrey Moore and Royston Bess(Lightweight) Hendrick Pelswijk, Jermin King and Sheldon Phillips (Junior Welterweight) Troy Castello, Chris Nurse, Damian Allicock, Clevon Rock, Edmond De Clou and Leon Carter (Welterweight) Mark Pierre, Randy Tello, Romeo Norville, Dennis Thomas and Dillon Boatswain (Middleweight) and Orin Grenville and Fitroy Richardson (Light Heavyweight)
Meanwhile, a Mashramani tournament is billed for February 24-25 at the National Gymnasium.(SH)
