Dear Editor,
It seems that Mr Hamilton Green has a bee in his bonnet.
Without seeking to trivialize the matter he keeps regurgitating, I have to state that there are more critical and important issues in this country that we need to preoccupy ourselves with to make the lives of our people better and better.
It was precisely because I did not consider the matter trivial that I sought to clarify the position of the Guyanese authorities for the benefit of my colleague parliamentarians.
Mr Green was not seated in the Public Gallery when I spoke on this matter so I do not know from whence or from whom he got my “explanation”.
However, since he has sought to tarnish my name in his letter published in Stabroek News of February 4, 2007, for the benefit of readers let me repeat exactly what I said in Parliament.
“Mdme Speaker, as regards the document which the Hon. Member Mr Norton waved before us, I have never really seen that document, but I understand, as a mater of fact that the CWC in its marketing strategy, which is not something that was discussed with Member States on an individual basis, in seeking to market Cricket World Cup decided to describe the conditions under which cricket World Cup will be held in Guyana in that way. I understand and I am further advised that when this matter was drawn to the attention of the Local Organising Committee and the Minister responsible for Cricket World Cup, the Minister of Sport Dr Anthony, immediately contacted Cricket World Cup.
