Health officials yesterday said that Carol John, the pregnant North West woman whom relatives believe was buried alive, was in fact dead at the time of her burial and the male foetus that was also discovered in the coffin was expelled from her body as a result of the gas produced by the decaying corpse.
Her relatives were yesterday told this by two persons who stated that they had witnessed the autopsy. The relatives had visited the Ministry of Health, to address their concerns to the minister.
“They tell we that they get to understand that some woman rub she (John) belly and that’s what caused the tube to wrap up. They said that that is what killed her. They tell we that it is the gas, oxygen and heat from the sun that caused the baby to come out”.
The woman stated that she doesn’t believe the health officials’ explanation and she is still looking for answers.
On Wednesday, John’s four sisters told members of the media that on January 27 the mother of seven was given an injection by a nurse at the Mabaruma Hospital that caused her to sleep. Within a matter of hours the woman was pronounced dead. When pathologists from Georgetown exhumed the body to perform the post-mortem it was discovered that the foetus had been expelled from John’s body. This led her relatives to believe that she was buried alive.
