Two Kwakwani, Berbice women were electrocuted on Wednesday afternoon while in conversation as they held on to opposite sides of a fence.
Dead are Janeva Letlow aka `Auntie Dolly’, 78 yrs, and Oslyn Vandenburg, 30. According to neighbours in the area, Letlow and Vandenburg were electrocuted while holding on to a fence in the backyard of the older woman.
Oslyn was at the time on the premises of her workplace at the Kwakwani Children’s Hostel where she was a cook and Letlow was in her adjoining backyard.
Sources said that prior to the incident it was raining heavily in the area and there was a power surge which damaged appliances.
It was said that there was an exposed wire in the yard of Letlow which ran from her house to a nearby fowl pen and this is believed to have been the cause for the two being electrocuted coupled with the fact that there was an earthing problem in the area.
The Kwakwani Utility Inc. is said to be investigating the incident.
