The Mayor and City Council (M&CC), with assistance from a number of private sector organisations will host the first ever Georgetown International Village during the Cricket World Cup Season. Georgetown Mayor Hamilton Green on Wednesday said the festival will be held under the theme “Georgetown’s celebration of the world’s cultures” and it promises to be a treat for Guyanese and the visiting cricket fans. The M&CC, in a statement, said visitors will be given an opportunity to savour the unique foods, snacks and fine juices, cocktails, beers, wines and other beverages that are the pride of Guyana, the Caribbean and countries further a field.
Green said a number of organisations have already come on board to support the event which will run from March 27 to April 9 and will be hosted at the Independence Park ({Parade Ground). The ground will open from 5 pm to 11 pm each night and patrons would be treated to live musical performances and dances. The council has also planned an “Eat to the beat” concert series which will showcase a wide range of art forms particularly from the Guyanese, Caribbean and Latin America Cultures.
The M&CC said the event will be a culinary celebration of multi-cultural pride that will highlight the capital city’s growing and diverse character.
