The death of a mother and her baby earlier this year is under review by the Maternal Mortality Committee of the Georgetown Public Hospital, according to Minister of Health Dr Leslie Ramsammy.
The 40-year-old Denise McIntyre died on January 5 after giving birth to a still born baby. PNCR parliamentarian Debra Backer asked the minister whether the woman’s death was being investigated and the minister replied in parliament in the affirmative yesterday.
He said when a report is completed by the committee it would be submitted to Director of Medical Services at the hospital, Dr Madan Rambarran and he would in turn study it and make recommendations which would be forwarded to the Chief Medical Officer of the ministry. The chief medical officer will then determine if there should be any further action.
The woman’s husband, Eric McIntyre, yesterday said he is awaiting an answer from the hospital before he goes public with the issue. He said that his wife has left eight children, four girls and four boys, and they all want answers about her death and they are patiently awaiting a response from the institution. The man did not want to say more on the matter but promised that he will be making a statement after his third contact with the hospital. “Right now I am angry, I am stressed out and I am just tired,” he said.
