The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) last Thursday honoured National Captain and West Indies vice-captain Ramnaresh Sarwan as a cricketing hero and role model at a special luncheon held in his honour at the club’s Head Office.
Club Secretary Hilbert Foster noted the RHTY&SC had honoured Carl Hooper, Roger Harper, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Robert Samuels, Chris Gayle, Wavell Hinds, Courtney Browne, and Sherwin Campbell in its `Tribute to Heroes’ programme.
The club said Sarwan is viewed in the same vein as former West Indies captains Rohan Kanhai and Clive Lloyd and is a positive role model to the country’s youth.
Sarwan was also inducted as an honorary member of the club, joining an elite list. He received a plaque, a trophy, an art piece, a gold ring, a wrist watch, a gold chain and other gifts.
The West Indies vice captain thanked the club for honouring him and hailed the organization for its efforts in assisting youths and others less fortunate.
In attendance were the members of the Guyana and Leeward Islands teams.
Leeward Islands’ Manager, Alton Grant, congratulated Sarwan on being honoured noting that the Guyana vice-captain was a regional hero in the true sense of the word.
The RHTY&SC also said it would like to thank the Guyana Beverage Company, Ansa McAl, Kris Jagdeo, Tony Chinasammy, Rufus Fraser, Peter Lewis, and the Trophy Stall for their support.
