The National Sport Commission’s (NSC) cycling coach Hassan Mohamed will be hosting two Mashramani cycling programmes. The first will be held today at the National Park circuit and the other, a classic 40-miler tomorrow from the Demerara Harbour Bridge to Bushy Park and back.
Today’s programme will commence with the BMX three laps for boys’ 9 to 12 and 12 to 14 years respectively. The BMX boys six to nine years will go for two laps while the girls six to 12 years will race over one lap.
The schoolboys and novices will compete over 35 laps and the juveniles for 10. Meanwhile, other events for the day include the BMX boys’ open (3 laps), the upright cyclists (5 laps), veterans under and over 40 years (5 laps) and boys’ twelve to 14 years (3 laps).
NSC coach Mohamed, in a press release, stated that tomorrow’s programme will feature a 40-mile cycle road race proceeding from the Demerara Harbour Bridge at 9 am to Bushy Park and returning to the Harbour Bridge.
The first six cyclists as well as the first two juniors to finish the race will be awarded prizes at the end of the day’s events.
The races are open only to registered cyclists and licensed riders who are required to wear club jerseys.
The programmes have received official sponsorship from the NSC.
