Georgetown easily defeated East Bank by 44 runs in the Inter-Association Under-15 limited-overs cricket final at the Everest Cricket Club ground yesterday.
The East Bank team seemed heading for victory at 101-3 chasing 153 made by Georgetown, who were inserted after losing the toss.
But in a stunning collapse, the visitors lost eight wickets for eight runs crumbling to 109 all out in 44 overs.
Skipper Shameer Fazal was awarded the man-of-the-match plaque after scoring 52 and taking 2-27 in his team’s losing effort.
Georgetown, after a decent start which saw them on 62-1 at one stage, started losing wickets rapidly and, at 93-6, seemed unlikely to break the century mark.
However, Delroy Clarke, batting at number eight, rescued the home team with a cameo innings of 30, the top score.
His knock included two fours and injected some respectability to the team’s total. Opener Kevin Singh chipped in with 28.
Fazal, who has a suspect bowling action, was supported by Troy Jaisingh 2-25 bowling for East Bank.
Leroy Edwards was the only other East Bank batsman in double figures with 21. Carlos La Rose picked up 2-4 from four overs and diminutive leg-spinner Amir Khan claimed 2-18 from 10 overs, bowling for the victors.
