I write disgusted with the unconscionable practices by some businesses regarding high prices for goods that are expected to be reduced with the introduction of VAT.
All government ministries are presently faced with increased prices for supplies including cleaning agents. These we know were subject to 30 percent under the Consumption Tax which has been replaced by the 16 percent VAT.
Yet some businesses are charging exorbitant prices for some cleaning agents and other items.
I am strongly recommending to all the government ministries and agencies to form one group that would import all our supplies so that we could begin to benefit from the 16 percent VAT.
If we together embark on such an initiative we would force businesses that are being indiscriminate to close down or treat consumers fairly.
