Darren Haynes and Latoya Hope were the winners of the male and female categories respectively when the National Sport Commission (NSC) held its Mashramani novices table tennis tournament on Saturday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The tournament attracted some 50 entries, 45 of which were males.
In the female round robin finals Latoya Hope of Alleyne’s High took first place with four wins while second place went to Monique Aaron of School of the Nations with three wins and one defeat.
She was followed by Shanyce McAlmont of North Georgetown Primary with a 2-2 aggregate while Juliene Hynes of Alleyne’s High with one win and three losses was fourth.
Natoya Vieira of Dolphin Secondary with 0-4 ended in the cellar.
In the male finals, Critchlow Labour College student Haynes defeated Christopher Khan 11-7, 11-6 and 11-8.
In the semi-finals Haynes defeated Kesley Layne of Tucville High by three games to one while Khan got the better of St Rose’s High student Cleroy Beckles by a 3-0 margin.
